The first thing to do when planning to build wooden sheds is to have a plan that is as detailed as possible. A well-done shed should last around three to four decades. When a building plan for a wooden shed is ill-conceived, it is almost a guarantee that the shed would deteriorate in just a short period of time.

Why are wooden sheds so popular? It is because you could build it to jive with the motif of your house or garden. Also, there is something to be said about the looks of a shed that’s made of wood.

Other characteristics of wooden sheds

Wooden sheds are probably the cheapest outdoor structure one could build. These storage structures are also popular because one can choose from various styles and designs such as contemporary, Victorial, Colonial, etc. And with just a bit of imagination and creativity, it’s quite easy to achieve such wooden designs.

There are ready-built sheds out in the market, and these are actually kits that could be delivered right to your doorstep. You can either put them up yourself or hire a contractor to do the work. The problem with these ready-built sheds, however, is that they are usually not long-lasting. If longevity is your priority, there are other alternatives when looking for or when building wooden sheds.

Building tips

When putting up a wooden shed, pay attention to the kinds of wood used. When the wrong type of wood is used, the structure could rot in just a short period. For the flooring, if you use regular plywood, you might regret it. The best thing is to seek or create a treated plywood floor for your shed. Wall sheating could be made of different materials: foam, plywood, oriented-strand board, or a combination of these materials.

Arguably, the most critical decision doesn’t have to do with the color or the style, but the size of the shed. Building a shed with the correct size is not that hard. Gather all the tools you intend to store in it, and arrange them in a square or rectangle. Measure the outer boundary to get the measurement for the outer wall.

The Internet can be a rich source of downloadable plans when building a wooden shed. You can also check out images and pictures of country-style or colonial wooden sheds to get an idea on how to design your own outhouse.
