Every household may soon encounter space problems. With growing family or needs, the garage, attic, or any other storage place may not be enough to keep all the tools, collection, and other important stuff. In these case, one good storage solution is to build a lean to shed. Though this may be a little difficult to those who know nothing about building or carpentry, this is among the most affordable storage solutions.

Benefits of building lean to sheds

A lean to shed is open at one whole side, making it more flexible for growing storage needs. Lean to sheds are also cheaper to build than the traditional kind of sheds. Because of the ventilation it provides through the open space, it works well as a wood shed. The wood that will be stored here can easily dry out but still be prevented from getting wet because of rain and snow. This type of shed could be built against the side of a building, or could be free-standing.

The building materials for lean to sheds

For lean to sheds, it is good to use a combination of used and new materials. A lot of rebuilding shops offer used siding, screws, nails, roof tars, etc. Just make sure that these materials can still be used for building lean to sheds. If not, then this will defeat the whole purpose of having an extra storage space at less cost. Soon, you may find yourself spending more for repairs and rebuilding.

When it comes to support, you can use the 4″x4″x8′ posts that are pressure treated. Bury the posts two feet, then use a level to guarantee that they are straight. You can hire a handyman if you are not good in DIY projects like this.

You need a great deal of creativity and resourcefulness if using secondhand materials. You may need to cut the wood could be cut into different dimensions to fit the building pieces for a lean to shed. Though this could be a lot of work, this would translate to more savings. Just be sure to take the right measurement for the lean to shed you’re trying to build and consider the budget you have for the tools and materials you’ll use.
